eff and Marcia Dale are graphic artists,
so it’s no surprise that their Cary, North
Carolina, yard is a showcase of imaginative
design. As design pros, they understood
the wisdom of beginning with a good plan.
Landscape architect Jeff Briggs helped
them develop interesting lines and shapes in their
landscape combined with low-maintenance plants.
Briggs sketched out placement of deck areas,
pathways, a patio, and planting beds on the three-
quarter-acre property but left plenty of leeway for
the Dales to choose building materials and plants.

for outdoor activities and dining
